The Pride Center of Western New York, an affiliate of Evergreen Health, is a Buffalo-based 501(c)3 health promotion organization specializing in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) health and HIV prevention. Established in 2001, The Pride Center's goal is to promote the lifelong health and well-being of LGBTQ+ people. Our office is in Buffalo, but we provide services throughout the eight counties of Western New York State.
We’re here to help LGBTQ people take control of their health so they can look after themselves as well as their partners, family and friends. We provide the latest information on health issues affecting LGBTQ people, and we offer a range of services delivered by caring people who genuinely understand the health issues affecting LGBTQ people. Our services cover: Sexual health; HIV prevention; Alcohol and drugs; Safety and inclusion; Domestic and family violence; Aging; Training and education; Resources and referrals.
Transgender Health Initiative: People of transgender and gender non-binary (TGNB) experience often face widespread discrimination and misunderstanding from health care providers. As a consequence, many persons of transgender experience do not have safe access to primary and preventive healthcare. We're here to offer a trans-affirmative environment where clients can be linked to sexual health services, social and support groups, as well as engage in an ongoing relationship with a primary care provider and/or a mental health provider to address the full spectrum of health and wellness needs.
We also provide linkage to services tailored for clients of transgender experience that need additional support. Our staff offer information, assistance and referrals regarding benefits and entitlements, including insurance, housing, and linkages to other supportive services. Our trans heath services include: Linkage to Primary Care; Linkage to Chest/Breast Health; Hormone Care; Pelvic Wellness Exams; PAP Tests; Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Screenings & Treatment; HIV/AIDS Testing, Treatment & Prevention, including PrEP and PEP; Harm Reduction Counseling; Sexual Health Workshops; Social & Support Groups.
